Your final draft of the Profile Assignment is due (printed) at the end of class Friday. We will have a peer review session Thursday in class.  

Profile Essay Checklist
  • Attention getting introduction
  • Clear thesis (includes main idea)
  • Suggestion of organization
  • Transitions between paragraphs
  • Good paragraph development
    • Two or three defining characteristics
    • Use of quotes (at least one per par.)
    • Good use of sensory details
  • Connection to your life
  • Conclusion
  • Finally, correct college-level English

Homework

Seniors Your exam is on Thursday, and your final essay is on Friday. I'll talk more about the essay in class tomorrow. Also, the senior auction project lacks one more important detail - your memories! We will spend a bit of time tomorrow in class writing down some of your fondest memories of your senior year, and the rest of your time at RO.  Sophomores Read "Lines Composed a few miles above Tintern Abbey," and complete the questions at the end of the selection in your book. As always, please use complete sentences and cite frequently from the text.

Sir Gawain and the Green Knight

What better way to spend Halloween than reading a story that begins with a beheading? For the next week or so, we'll be discussing Arthurian Literature, beginning with a look at " Sir Gawain and the Green Knight ," the anonymous tale of a test of courtly love, involving a supernatural green knight and a bet. For more information on the poem, read this introduction . I've also included a prose translation that you can compare with the verse translation we have in our book.
