Seniors ~ Problem Paper

OVERVIEW

Write a two-three page definition and discussion of a specific problem in your chosen field of interest. The problem you discuss here will form the basis for your analysis in Paper #3. Problems can be “academic” or “work-related.” Remember that when I say "problem" I'm referring to problems you will face (and solve) as a professional in your field. The paper must cite at least three credible sources. Format according to MLA.

PROCESS

(1) Investigate possible “problems” utilizing the following types of sources:

Interview –ask a professional
Online Resources
(2) Propose a topic via MEMO. Your memo should include a statement of purpose and show an awareness of audience. The memo's body should include at least two 100-word paragraphs -- one on your problem, and one on your research to date
  • Heading should be double-spaced (To, From, Date, Subject)
  • Body should be single-spaced
  • First line of the body should be a statement of purpose
  • No signature -- initial by your name instead
(3) Compose a 2-3 page description of the problem, including the following:
  • Define the problem – one specific problem, discussed in detail
  • Establish that the problem needs to be solved
  • Discuss causes of the problem
  • Explain how the problem affects your profession
Please include copies of all sources in your folder.

Important: Do NOT discuss any solutions to the problem at this time. Save the information you find for paper #3.

Also, I have posted the Chaucer notes under "assignments" on your Edline page. Seniors You are writing the " This I Believe " essay in class tomorrow. Think about your topic before you come to class, but please do not pre-write it. You will have the chance to revise.

Senior End-of-Year Schedule!

Seniors, the end is near, and there are a few assignments left to schedule. Here is a list of everything due in the next two weeks: Career Update - a one-page addendum to your research paper, updating your plans for college and beyond. Be sure to include what you originally planned and if that's changed. Whether plans have changed or not, please explain why and what steps you've taken towards reaching your goal -- i.e. where you've decided to attend and what major you've declared. This is due WEDNESDAY 4/24. Letter to Future Self - this is an OPTIONAL assignment, but I encourage you to take it seriously. As discussed in class, this letter will be sent to you in about five years. Think about what you'd like to tell yourself five years from now. For example, maybe it would be interesting to reflect on your plans at the time, what values you held dear, what you wanted to remember.
