Read through chapter four of Frankenstein and discuss the following in complete sentences, citing from the text:
  • How do his friends react to Victor's departure for college?
  • Compare and contrast Victor's two professors at Ingolstadt (44-45).
  • Explain how Victor achieves "the summit of [his] desires" (49).
  • What is the effect of Walton's narrative breaking the fourth wall (50)?
  • Describe the making of the creature - its size, for example (51-52)..
  • How does his family react to his absence? (53-54)
  • Describe the creature and Victor's reaction (55-57).
Your honors assignment for this week - due Monday - is to read and summarize the linked article on BIOHACKING. Please ask if you need a printed copy. Your summary should be 250-words, typed and formatted according to MLA.

Homework

Seniors Your exam is on Thursday, and your final essay is on Friday. I'll talk more about the essay in class tomorrow. Also, the senior auction project lacks one more important detail - your memories! We will spend a bit of time tomorrow in class writing down some of your fondest memories of your senior year, and the rest of your time at RO.  Sophomores Read "Lines Composed a few miles above Tintern Abbey," and complete the questions at the end of the selection in your book. As always, please use complete sentences and cite frequently from the text.

Sir Gawain and the Green Knight

What better way to spend Halloween than reading a story that begins with a beheading? For the next week or so, we'll be discussing Arthurian Literature, beginning with a look at " Sir Gawain and the Green Knight ," the anonymous tale of a test of courtly love, involving a supernatural green knight and a bet. For more information on the poem, read this introduction . I've also included a prose translation that you can compare with the verse translation we have in our book.
