Summer Reading

Your summer reading list is posted on the school's website - SUMMER READING - and the required works are listed below:
  • To Kill A Mockingbird (9th)
  • Hound of the Baskervilles (10th)
  • The Glass Menagerie (11th)
  • This I Believe (12th)
In addition to the required texts, all students must read ONE (non-honors) or TWO (honors/DE/AP) books of their own choosing. Books must be grade-level appropriate and should be books the students have not already read, obviously. 

The goal is to keep you reading, but I would like for you to have some choice in the matter. Visit your local bookstore or go online to see what looks interesting!

Sir Gawain and the Green Knight

What better way to spend Halloween than reading a story that begins with a beheading? For the next week or so, we'll be discussing Arthurian Literature, beginning with a look at " Sir Gawain and the Green Knight ," the anonymous tale of a test of courtly love, involving a supernatural green knight and a bet. For more information on the poem, read this introduction . I've also included a prose translation that you can compare with the verse translation we have in our book.

Homework

Seniors Your exam is on Thursday, and your final essay is on Friday. I'll talk more about the essay in class tomorrow. Also, the senior auction project lacks one more important detail - your memories! We will spend a bit of time tomorrow in class writing down some of your fondest memories of your senior year, and the rest of your time at RO.  Sophomores Read "Lines Composed a few miles above Tintern Abbey," and complete the questions at the end of the selection in your book. As always, please use complete sentences and cite frequently from the text.
