This Week

Seniors
We are beginning a unit on "The Future" - including a discussion of cell phone use, social media, robotics, artificial intelligence, and alternate reality. To begin this conversation, we are viewing a 2010 episode of Frontline, "Digital Nation." I will refer to the following throughout the week:

Sophomores
We are reading and talking about "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" this week, with a test on Wednesday. The honors exam will be on Thursday, and everyone else will have a reading assignment. We will resume on Friday with an introduction to Frankenstein.

Sir Gawain and the Green Knight

What better way to spend Halloween than reading a story that begins with a beheading? For the next week or so, we'll be discussing Arthurian Literature, beginning with a look at " Sir Gawain and the Green Knight ," the anonymous tale of a test of courtly love, involving a supernatural green knight and a bet. For more information on the poem, read this introduction . I've also included a prose translation that you can compare with the verse translation we have in our book.

Homework

Seniors Your exam is on Thursday, and your final essay is on Friday. I'll talk more about the essay in class tomorrow. Also, the senior auction project lacks one more important detail - your memories! We will spend a bit of time tomorrow in class writing down some of your fondest memories of your senior year, and the rest of your time at RO.  Sophomores Read "Lines Composed a few miles above Tintern Abbey," and complete the questions at the end of the selection in your book. As always, please use complete sentences and cite frequently from the text.
