Seniors ~ Memory Book

It's time for the "memory book" assignment, so you'll need to gather supplies and bring everything to class starting Wednesday. We are also doing a couple of assignments in class, including a letter to your future self and a poem. I'll explain in class.

For your "memory book" assignment, you'll need to purchase a couple of things. First, you need a scrapbook from WalMart or Target or Hobby Lobby or Michael's or somewhere. They come in small and large; get the large ("12 X "12). You'll also need at least eight sheets (for a total of sixteen pages). I recommend the kind that are inserted into plastic sleeves. As far as backgrounds and corner cutters and all that, use your best judgement. Some of you will want that stuff, but it's certainly not required.

Remember that you'll need to get some pictures/information together from your high school years (9-12 regardless of school). You'll need to organize information into three basic categories:
  • SCHOOL - School-related events and memories, including sports and activities
  • LIFE - Anything related to your life outside of school (i.e. family, trips, religion, etc.)
  • CULTURE - Anything related to what was going on in the world during your high school years, including politics and pop culture
You are required to FILL at least sixteen pages (that's four per year). Please use labels of some sort, whether written or typed. Finally, you'll need a title page.

Homework

Seniors Your exam is on Thursday, and your final essay is on Friday. I'll talk more about the essay in class tomorrow. Also, the senior auction project lacks one more important detail - your memories! We will spend a bit of time tomorrow in class writing down some of your fondest memories of your senior year, and the rest of your time at RO.  Sophomores Read "Lines Composed a few miles above Tintern Abbey," and complete the questions at the end of the selection in your book. As always, please use complete sentences and cite frequently from the text.

Monday Work

Sophomores We are going to discuss Ch11-16 in class Monday and finish answering the study questions for Tuesday. Seniors The first thing we will do on Monday is discuss your updated plans for school and career. A one page "addendum" to your career paper is due on Tuesday . Include whether or not you plan to pursue the career discussed in your research paper and why or why not. Also include plans for career post-graduation and any career-related plans for this summer. This paper can be informal in tone but should follow the conventions of college-level writing. Share with me via email as "lastname-addendum." We will also discuss the letter you will all write to your future selves (five years from now).
